MEUTE is an 11-piece techno brass band featuring techno, house and deep house from renowned producers. In addition to original works, successful compositions have been composed for orchestral instruments. On Friday, November 18th, I released MEUTE TAUMEL .
The 12-track Opus features heart-stopping techno, deep house sounds, energetic beats, incredible instrumentation and more. In fact, this band from Hamburg is trying to bring a different sound to dance music.
According to trumpeter Thomas Borhorn, who founded the band in 2015, TAUMEL means collapse in German. Also, the German word can mean vertigo or euphoria. There is also the word freudentaumel which means to be possessed, so there is ambiguity in TAUMEL .
"It's about so many emotions you can have when you're stuck and you lose control of everything," he said. “Sometimes it can be beautiful… you are stymied by excitement and maybe even uncertainty. It describes our situation in recent years, when [Covid-19] paralyzed cultural life around the world."
Borhorn said the LP "Peace" is about finding a voice for inner peace, peace with the environment and peace between nations - especially right now. He said: "We hope that there will be peace on earth and I believe that many people in the world do not understand why humanity cannot find a solution to bring peace to the world." “Even if it sounds a little romantic or naive, that's what we stand for: world peace. That's why we travel the world and we want to show that there are no excuses for borders between countries.
"[Music] is universal," he added. "It's for everyone. We've never had an experience where there was no resonance between our music and the people. So, in any country, whether we're in the United States, Poland, Thailand, France, or wherever we are we always feeling the same resonant feelings, and we believe this is exactly what we need - an echo between people.
Borhorn said the band came about because he is a trumpeter and a fan of woodwinds and techno. The fiddler had gone to wild parties and loved the "feeling when there's a DJ on stage and as the night goes on it gets more hypnotic and euphoric and the crowd ... has strong emotions". He added that although nothing was happening on stage, there was only one DJ and he felt that the atmosphere was based on the music. He formed the band because he thought it would be "interesting and awesome" to have a live band playing the same music as the DJs, especially minimal techno.
"Look, there's a whole universe in this techno-swamp band music field where we're the first to understand what's going on in this universe," Borhorn said. "That's the idea... It's part of our philosophy."
