Nicole Mudaber is known for her percussive, hypnotic, fast-paced voice that she brings to dance floors around the world. Mudaber was born in Ibadan, Nigeria to Lebanese parents. He spent his childhood in Lagos and moved to Beirut as a teenager. The producer says that growing up in a patriarchal society was difficult for him, but he "overcame all the difficulties of the Middle East." However, when he organized a party, Mudabar's freedom was threatened and he was sentenced to prison.
After the war in Lebanon, it hosted a Halloween party in the late 90s. Many of the attendees were from the LGBTQI+ community, and five months after the party, a major magazine ran a cover story claiming that Mudaber was spreading "homosexuality and depravity" in Beirut.
As a result, he was called to the police station and he admitted that he had organized a party. The officer said they will hold him until a judge signs a release order. The judge didn't sign the order in time, and as a result, he spent eight hours in jail until his sister, an attorney, was released.
"I've kept this story a secret all these years," says Mudabar. “My parents never knew. No one knew."
"It wasn't easy for me," he adds. "I feel ready, now I have the opportunity to talk about it."
The artist proves that he does indeed have a chance to discuss it now, especially given the significant platform that his astonishing success has brought him. He has performed hits on a high level, performed at famous festivals around the world, hosted MOOD Records and the award-winning weekly radio show In The MOOD.
Mudaber is inspired by architecture, a sunny day, a morning coffee and a joint party, a conversation with a friend, everything he finds beautiful. "The simple things in life... these are the beauties, the things that make you happy," she says. Her perfect day starts with her waking up with a smile, which she says rarely happens because she's usually tired from traveling the world.
When he's not creating thunderous techno to dominate the dance floor, his production company says, he's listening to music or local radio to relax when he's in a Latin country or Spain.
"My life is very noisy," he says. “On the weekends I'm in the studio [and] at clubs and festivals. It's so loud that sometimes I just need my ears to relax." She adds that she regularly listens to astrology and spiritual podcasts to relax.
Mudabar also likes to drive racing cars. He first became interested in racing six years ago after a friend, a Formula 1 test driver and two-time European GT champion, suggested he give it a try, knowing his love of cars and his need for speed. He says he immediately shut down in 2016 and applied for a professional driver's license. Since then, it has tested cars in the UK, Barbados and Lisbon, Portugal, and has a top speed of 265 km/h. His other passion is boats, which he likes to enjoy on day trips to places like Ibiza and the Caribbean. Growing up on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, Mudabar says he loves the sea.
As for what's next, Mudabar says he plans to write a book.
"I'm going to talk about my journey to who I am today," she says. "How I grew up in a patriarchal society, how difficult everything was for me because I was a woman. They all said, “No, you can't do that. No, you can't do that. This is not for women. It was not easy for a woman like me to throw parties and challenge all traditional customs and cultures. I did anyway."
