In the coup, Vivo introduced the first phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset and the first phone with Dimensity 9200 SoC. We are, of course, talking about the vivo X90 series, which will go on sale in China in the next few days. week
And while it's nice to see the new chipsets in action, the focus of the X90 series is on the best camera phones on the market Both sides feature a 1-inch Sony IMX989 sensor with a bright f/1.75 aperture and optical image stabilization, not to mention Zeiss work on the lenses.
Of course, only one can be the best , and that honor goes to the vivo X90 Pro+. It's the aforementioned Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phone, but it also has an exclusive periscope and ultra-wide module. The ultra-wide-angle camera doesn't have a wide field of view (114°), but its lens is designed for low distortion, meaning less digital perspective correction is required.
As for the periscope lens, it has a focal length of 90mm, which means 3.5x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom. The 64MP high-resolution sensor helps capture additional details. There's also a telephoto lens on board, a 50mm portrait camera with a 50MP sensor and a bright f/1.6 aperture.
The Vivo X90 Pro has the same main and portrait cameras, but ditches the periscope and downgrades the wide-angle module to a 12MP sensor and 108° lens.
The vanilla Vivo X90 goes one step further. Loses the main IMX989 sensor and gets a 1/1.49-inch 50MP sensor instead. Also, the 50mm camera has been replaced with a 12-megapixel sensor. But it has a powerful chipset and vivo V2 ISP support for image processing like the other two.
There are more reasons to choose your Pro+ All three have a 6.78-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, but only the Pro+ has an LTPO4 panel with a resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels. The other two skip the LTPO and have a resolution of 1260 x 2800 pixels. And they're using the Dimensity 9200 chipset, if that's not clear, we haven't tested it on Snapdragon yet (we've only seen leaked benchmarks so far).
There is also a difference in loading. Battery capacity is the same, but the X90 Pro has faster charging support at 120W wired (0-50% in 8 minutes) and 50W wireless. The Pro+ is slower with 80W wired charging (and still 50W wireless). The base model holds its own in the wired race with 120W support, but lacks wireless charging (the USB-C port drops to 2.0 if video output is important to you).
And the last thing is the price. Vivo just announced plans to expand into China, so we have to work with those prices. The Vivo X90 and X90 Pro are already available for RMB 3,700 (US$515 / €500 / £42,000) and RMB 5,000 (US$700 / €675 / £57,000) respectively. These will be available from December 6.
The Vivo X90 Pro+ will be priced at RMB 6,500 (US$905 / €880 / £74,000) after pre-orders go up on the 28th (also released on December 26).

These three are out of competition because they are the first with their chipsets. There are more Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Dimensity 9200 phones on the way, and we should see a few before the end of the year. However, we can only speculate about their prices and only whisper about their specifications, so we'll leave it at that for now.
Note the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, which is equipped with the same 1-inch IMX989 sensor, as well as a 48-megapixel 120mm periscope and a 48-megapixel wide-angle 128o camera. However, it uses an older Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and the 6.73-inch QHD+ display is "only" LTPO2 (still 120Hz). The 12/256GB version is priced at RMB 6,500, the same as the X90 Pro+ (there's a slightly cheaper 8/256GB model for RMB 6,000).

Note: We are aware of the Sharp Aquos R7 and Leica Leitz Phone 2, but they are boutique devices that cannot be purchased outside of Japan.
Assuming it goes international, would you buy the Vivo X90 Pro+? Leaks suggest that the 1-inch IMX989 will be used in more phones. Do you prefer to wait? Or is the camera not the main factor for you? Vote below or on this page. All of this, of course, assumes the Pro+ is available near you.
What about the Vivo X90 Pro? Not good for moderation, but can be good for money. Vote below if you're interested (or use this page if that doesn't work).
