- Samsung has filed an application with the FCC for its new smart wireless charger.
- The app includes an image that gives us a first look at the device.
- The docs say it has Zigbee and WPT capabilities with Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Samsung is working on a smart wireless charger called the SmartThings Station. However, nothing is known that the device could be the first of its kind. But thanks to a patent application filed with the FCC, we now have some details to dig into.
The SamMobile company, represented by Samsung, has filed a statement with the FCC, which contains not only the characteristics of the device, but also a picture of the SmartThings terminal.
The picture doesn't necessarily show the device, but it does track the radiation it emits, so you see all these geometric shapes in the picture. However, this gives us our first look at this SmartThings terminal.
As you can see from the photo, the device is no different visually. It is a square board with rounded corners. But it's hard to see clearly with everything in the way.
Moving on to the details, the device is said to have the model number EP-P9500, which is similar to the model number naming conventions that Samsung uses for other wireless chargers. The documents also reveal that the product has Zigbee and Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) capabilities with Bluetooth LE and Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac connectivity.
Unfortunately, the application does not contain information about the charging speed of the device. There is also no mention of when Samsung plans to release the SmartThings terminal.
It's unclear how Samsung intends to use the device to improve the SmartThings platform. Will it let you remotely control wireless charging or do something else? We just have to wait for more information to emerge.
