There are many smartwatches that offer health features that help with things like fatigue. However, the new Citizen smartwatch has something the others don't have, namely NASA and IBM Watson technology.
At CES, Citizen announced the release of a new version of its CZ smartwatches. The new smartwatch has a built-in "Personal Care Advisor" that works in tandem with the company's new YouQ app.
The amazing thing about this wellness app is that it was developed with IBM Watson Studio and uses NASA technology. According to Citizen, its app uses IBM Watson to analyze the wearer's chronotype (a person's preferred sleeping and waking times). It takes place over a period of seven to ten days and processes data from sleep and wakefulness values.
Vigilance scores are managed using a customized vigilance surveillance test that uses the consumer version of the NASA Psychomotor Vigilance Test (PVT plus). This test was originally designed to measure astronauts' mental acuity and was developed by the Ames Research Center's Fatigue Measurement Laboratory. Citizen explains that its alert checks are “short, varied, and can be performed daily to measure the wearer's alertness.
The YouQ app aims to use this data to learn your cadence and habits and recommend personalized "energy patches". These powerful solutions suggest actions and activities users can take to overcome stress, improve alertness, and develop better habits.
According to Citizen, the YouQ app will only work for the second generation of CZ smartwatches. So if you own a first-gen CZ smartwatch, you're out of luck.
The new CZ smartwatch will have a sports model and a casual model. The sporty model comes with silicone or metal straps, while the casual model comes with a mesh strap, links or silicone straps.
If you want to buy one for yourself, Citizen hasn't offered a price for this tool. However, the device is expected to go on sale in the US in March.
