According to new leaked images, Meta is working on another smartwatch to support its Metaverse ambitions.
Leaker Kuba Wojciechowski showed a series of images and claimed to be a redesigned meta smartwatch.
The leak comes from an anonymous source, so there are big red flags regarding authenticity. But there is a lot of information here.
The Meta v2 smartwatch apparently keeps the original philosophy, a detachable design and of course a body-worn camera.
The leak claims it will have a Qualcomm SoC and will run Android (but not Wear OS). Whether this will be Qualcomm's new W5 platform or something else is unknown.
In November 2022, we announced the retirement of the smartwatch project Meta. But some information from that time may give a clue.
The smartwatch he owned at the time was codenamed "Milan" and was set to launch in Spring 2023 for $349.
But The Verge reports that there are two other smartwatch projects in early and mid-stage development. So this new project could be one of those other two devices.
The leak also claims that Meta wants users "to get used to the form factor that will eventually be used for other Metaverse-related devices."
Whether it's a controller or a second screen to be used in the Metaverse, no one knows.
But given Meta's history of experimenting and shelving smartwatch plans, we won't give her too much emotional range just yet.
