It's always interesting to know how much something costs to make compared to its retail price. For example, did you know that the $1,199 Galaxy S21 Ultra 128GB costs Samsung $533? Well, thanks to a new report, we now know how much it cost Google to build an LTE version of the Pixel Watch.
According to a BOM report from Counterpoint, an international industry analytics firm, the LTE-enabled Pixel Watch costs $123 to Google. This version of the Pixel Watch retails for $399 at launch. If you do the math, that's about $276 less than the retail price.
In addition to disclosing the total cost of BOM, the report also divides the total cost into several parts. You can see the full breakdown in the chart below.
It's important to note that if you add up all the percentages, the total will be more than 100%. As Counterpoint pointed out in their post, this is due to rounding.
In case you didn't know, the Pixel Watch uses an Exynos 9110 processor powered by Samsung. The Korean technology giant also supplies LTE transceivers and other related components. As a result, Samsung accounts for a large portion of the total spec cost in terms of a 20 percent cost share.
In second place is the 1.2-inch OLED Pixel Watch from BOE. The display has a resolution of 450 × 450 pixels, provides up to 1000 nits of brightness and is protected by special Corning 3D glass (Gorilla Glass 5). According to the report, the screen alone accounts for up to 14% of the total cost.
