It's been more than two years since Samsung launched its first Smart Object Tracker and it's reportedly preparing to launch its next model. The Korean company plans to launch the second-generation version of the Galaxy SmartTag in the second half of this year. The reported program suggests that it will come with new foldable and portable devices.
Samsung first released the Galaxy Smart Tag and Galaxy Smart Tag+ in January 2021 alongside the Galaxy S21 series. The former is a Bluetooth-enabled tracker, while the latter adds ultra-wideband (UWB) support. These small technologies work in tandem with the company's SmartThings Internet of Things (IoT) platform to locate lost objects over a connected network. You can find your stuff with SmartThings Find. The Galaxy Smart Tag exchanges encrypted signals with the SmartThings IoT network to share its location.
The two smart trackers have a physical button that allows you to remotely call your smartphone or tablet if it's lost. The same button can be set as a remote control for your IoT and smart home devices. Despite all these options, Samsung's first foray into smart trackers doesn't seem to have gone as planned. Two years have passed and there are no new models. This market may not be what the company envisions. Few, except Apple, have succeeded.
But Samsung hasn't given up yet. Sources informed Sam Mobile that the company is preparing to release a new version of the Galaxy Smart Tag. Unfortunately, no further information is currently available. It is not yet clear whether the Korean company will release two more models. We don't know what improvements it will bring. The release suggests that Samsung will offer better wireless range, higher volume, and advanced security measures to prevent misuse or unauthorized tracking.
We should hear more about the second generation Galaxy Smart Tag in the coming months as Samsung continues to develop it. As previously reported, the company plans to launch in the second half of 2023. The foldable Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 are expected to be announced around that time. The launch event is expected to unveil the Galaxy Watch 6 series and a new pair of TWS headphones. The Galaxy S23 FE could be part of the range. We'll let you know.
Samsung's announcement of launching a new Galaxy Smart flagship later this year made headlines for the first time on Android.
